Simental Irkı Bir Buzağıda Aşağı Ekstremite Amputasyonu ve Protez Uygulaması

Abstract

Simental ırkı 20 günlük bir buzağı sol ön bacağında kırık şikayeti ile hayvan hastanesine (Afyon Kocatepe Üniversitesi Veteriner Fakültesi) getirildi. Hasta sahibi kırığın doğumda çekmeye bağlı olarak oluştuğu ve üzerinden 20 gün geçtiğini bildirdi. Yapılan klinik muayene sonucunda buzağının sol metacarpus 1/3 distalinde açık ve enfekte bir kırık tespit edildi. Tendo ve sinirlerin tahrip olduğu ve bu tür olguların sağaltımlarının uzun süreli ve ekonomik olmayacağı ya da enfeksiyon nedenli ölümle sonuçlanabileceği düşünülerek bacağın amputasyonuna karar verildi. Metacarpus’un proksimal 1/3 kısmından amputasyon gerçekleştirildi. Operasyon yarasının iyileşmesini takiben buzağı için özel olarak yaptırılan dış protez (uzayabilen) ekstremiteye tespit edildi. Bu tür olgularda ekstremite amputasyonu, hayvanın ekonomik değer kazanıncaya kadar yaşatılmasında uygun bir yöntem olduğu ve buzağıların protezi kabul edebileceği sonucuna varıldı.

A 20 day-old Simmenthal calf was referred to the animal hospital (Afyon Kocatepe University, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine) due to a fracture in the front left limb. The owner reported that fracture was associated with the distocia and has a history of 20 days. After clinical examination, an infected and open fracture was observed at the 1/3 distal aspect of left metacarpus of the calf. It was decided to perform amputation because of severely damaged tendons and nerves, in addition, the treatment would be longer and not economical or possibility of death due to infection. Metacarpus was amputated at the level of 1/3 proximal aspect. Following the wound healing a specially designed external prosthesis (extendable) was fixed to the amputated limb and the calf well tolerated the prosthesis. It was cocluded that the amputation could be feasible method for saving life until animal gains economical values.
