Abstract

Mass media occasionaly damage people’s honour, or write or broadcast unreal news about people. The most significant mechanism that protects the liberty of the press and information and the human rights from this type of issues is the right to reply and rectification with its stabilizing peculiarity. The right to reply and rectification contribute to maintain the same standards by setting a bar against the abuse of the Liberty of Press; furthermore, it enables the person who has been exposed toharm to reply by taking advantages of the same media and opportunities. In this study, the new legal arrangements in the EU and Turkey, during the harmonization process, as regards ‘the right to reply and rectification’ have been analyzed. Also, it is aimed to offer solutions and suggestions by evaluating the problems experienced in the usage process of the right to reply and rectification and to develope alternative methods for the use of the said right.
