Mobilyada cinsiyet kavramı üzerine bir araştırma: Tuvalet masası örneği

Abstract

İnsan yaşamının vazgeçilmez unsurlarından biri olan mobilyalar, zaman içinde dönemin gereklerine uygun olarak çeşitli kimliklere bürünmüştür. Kimi zaman belli bir akımın temsilcisi, kimi zaman moda ürünü, kimi zaman da bir statü göstergesi olarak biçimlenen mobilyanın büründüğü kimliklerden birinin de cinsiyet kavramı olduğunu söylemek mümkündür. Bazı mobilyaların içinde bulunduğu dönemin yaşam biçimi ve ihtiyaçlarına bağlı olarak belli bir cinsiyet kazandığı, biçimlenişinin de bu doğrultuda yapıldığı gözlenmiştir. Bununla birlikte, çalışmada daha kapsamlı inceleme yapabilmek amacıyla tuvalet masası örneği üzerine odaklanılmıştır. Bu kapsamda tuvalet masası mobilyasının tarihsel süreç içindeki gelişimini, kullanım amaçlarını, değişen stillerini, işlevsel özelliklerini, sahip olduğu cinsiyet kimliğini saptamak çalışmanın alt amaçlarını oluşturmaktadır.Furniture, which is one of the indispensable elements of human life, impersonates various identities in time according to the requirements of the period. It is sometimes expressed as a representative of an art movement, sometimes as a fashion product, and sometimes as an indicator of status. It is possible to say that; concept of gender is one of the furniture’s identities. It is observed that some furniture gain a certain gender depending on the lifestyle and necessities of the period. The aim of this study is researching the gender identity of furniture that has gained in time or has been gained consciously. In addition to this, this study is focused on the example of the dressing table in order to carry out a more thorough examination. In this context, the sub-purposes of the study is to determine the development of the dressing table furniture in the historical process, the purpose of use, the changing style, the functional features, and the gender identity it possesses.
