Orhun Abideleri’ndeki "Budun" sözcüğünün eşdizimlik bakımından incelenmesi

Abstract

Bir sözcüğün temel anlamının yanında başka ifadelerle bir arada kullanımıyla kazandığı anlamlar da vardır. Sözcüğün dizge içinde belirli bir sıklıkta birlikte kullanıldığı durumlar “eşdizim/eşdizimlik” kavramıyla karşılanır. Bu kavram dilde anlamın yalnızca tekil sözcükler üzerinden değil, sözcükler arası ilişkiler ağı içinde kurulduğunu göstermesi bakımından önem taşır. Sözcüklerin bu şekilde bir arada bulunmaları rastlantısal olmayan bir düzenlilik gösterir. Eşdizim kullanımlarında sözcüklerin temel anlamlarının yanı sıra belli bir sıklıkla kullanıldığı sözcüklerle kazandığı veya metne kazandırdığı anlamlar ortaya çıkar. Bu bakımdan eşdizimlik bir dizgede ve bağlamda anlam üretiminin temel araçlarından biri olarak değerlendirilebilir. Bu yeni anlamlar kimi zaman temel anlamla bağlantılıyken bazı kullanımlarda bundan uzaklaşabilir. Bu çalışmada Orhun Abideleri’nde geçen “budun” sözcüğünün eşdizimlik bakımından incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma nitel araştırma yöntemlerine göre yürütülmüş, veriler doküman analizi ile elde edilmiş, betimsel analiz yöntemiyle de analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmada metin içi kullanımların gösterdiği düzende tekrar eden birliktelikler belirlenmiştir. Metinde “budun” sözcüğünün toplamda yüz yetmiş iki (172) yerde eşdizimlik yapısı içinde kullanıldığı, bunlardan altmış (60) tanesinde “Türk” sözcüğünün yer aldığı ve dolayısıyla sözcüğün en sık “Türk” topluluğuyla ilişkilendirilerek kullanıldığı tespit edilmiştir. Bu da metinde toplumsal kimliğin Türk milleti ve “Türk budun” adlandırması üzerinden tanımlandığını göstermiştir.

In addition to a word’s basic meaning, there are also meanings it acquires through its use in combination with other expressions. Situations where a word is used together with others at a certain frequency within a system are described by the concept of ‘collocation’. This concept is significant in that it demonstrates that meaning in language is established not merely through individual words, but within a network of relationships between words. The co-occurrence of words in this manner exhibits a non-random regularity. In collocation, alongside the basic meanings of the words, the meanings they acquire—or impart to the text—through their frequent use with certain other words come to the fore. In this respect, collocation can be regarded as one of the fundamental tools of meaning production within a text and its context. These new meanings are sometimes connected to the basic meaning, whilst in some usages they may diverge from it. This study aims to examine the word “budun” as it appears in the Orkhon Inscriptions from the perspective of collocation. The study was conducted in accordance with qualitative research methods; the data were obtained through document analysis and analyzed using the descriptive analysis method. In the study, recurring co-occurrence patterns within the textual structure were identified based on the regularities observed in in-text usages. It was determined that the word “budun” appears within a collocational structure in a total of one hundred seventy-two (172) instances in the text, and in sixty (60) of these, it co-occurs with the word “Türk.” Accordingly, it was found that the word is most frequently associated with the Turkish community. This finding indicates that social identity in the text is constructed through the notion of the Turkish nation and the designation “Türk budun.”
