5. Sınıf öğrencilerinin bilimsel süreç becerilerini kullanabilme yeterliliklerinin incelenmesi

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı 5. sınıf öğrencilerinin fen bilimleri dersinde bilimsel süreç becerilerini kullanabilme yeterliliklerinin incelenmesidir. Çalışmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden odak grup görüşmesi, doküman incelemesi ve gözlem teknikleri kullanılmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak bilimsel süreç becerilerini incelemeye yönelik hazırlanmış çalışma yaprakları, odak grup görüşmesi formu, katılımcılar için kişisel bilgi formu ve gözlem formu kullanılmıştır. Çalışma 2014-2015 eğitim-öğretim yılında Afyonkarahisar ilindeki bir ortaokulda gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmanın katılımcıları bu okulda öğrenim görmekte olan altı beşinci sınıf öğrencisidir. Odak grup görüşmesi, gözlem ve doküman incelemesiyle ulaşılan veriler kodlanmış ve tematik olarak analiz edilmiştir. Çalışma sonunda öğrencilerin bazı temel becerilerde (gözlem, tahmin, ölçme, karşılaştırma ve sınıflama) orta ve ortanın üstünde; bazı temel becerilerde (çıkarım yapma, verileri kaydetme, deney malzemelerini ve araç-gereçlerini tanıma ve kullanma) ve tüm üst düzey becerilerde ortanın altında yeterliliğe sahip olduğu belirlenmiştir. Öğrencilerin beklenen başarıyı göstermemelerinin bir nedeninin deneyim eksikliği olabileceği belirlenmiştir. Bu nedenle fen bilimleri derslerindeki etkinliklerin nicel ve nitel açıdan gözden geçirilmesi önerisinde bulunulmuştur.

The aim of this study is to examine 5th grade primary school student’s proficiency in the use of science process skills in the science course. In this study, qualitative research methods focus group interviews, document analysis and observation techniques are used. As a data collection tool, designed to examine the scientific process skills worksheets, forms of the focus group interview, personal information form and for the participants, semi-structured observation form were used. Study was applied to a school in Afyonkarahisar in the academic year 2014-2015. The participants of the study are 6 students at the fifth grade who are studying in this school. The data achieved with the focus group interview with content analysis; observations and data collected by the document analysis were analyzed thematically. At the end of the study, it's determined that students for some basic skills (observing, predicting, measuring and classifying) were middle; for the some basic skills (inferring, constructing data, recognizing and using equipment used in science experiments) and all the integrated process skill participants are average. Students could not show the expected success, it was determined that it's because of lack of experience. Therefore, it's suggested that the activities in science course should revise in terms of qualitative and quantitative research.
