Sosyal bilgiler öğretmenlerinin etkili vatandaşlık algılarının incelenmesi

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı, Sosyal Bilgiler öğretmenlerinin etkili vatandaşlık algılarının çeşitli değişkenler açısından incelenmesidir. Bu araştırma, nicel araştırma yönteminin tarama modeliyle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubu, 2022-2023 eğitim-öğretim yılında İstanbul ilinin 10 ilçesinde Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı’na bağlı ortaokullarda görev yapan 311 Sosyal Bilgiler öğretmeninden oluşmuştur. Verilerin toplanmasında Sağlam (2011) tarafından geliştirilen Etkili Vatandaşlık Yeterlilik Ölçeği (EVYÖ) kullanılmıştır. EVYÖ, 23 maddeye ve iki alt boyuta sahip 5’li likert tipi bir ölçektir. Araştırma ile elde edilen veriler IBM SPSS 26 paket programı kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma kapsamında Sosyal Bilgiler öğretmenlerinin etkili vatandaşlık algılarının en yüksek düzeyde olduğu bulgusuna ulaşılmıştır. Ayrıca Sosyal Bilgiler öğretmenlerinin etkili vatandaşlık yeterlik algılarında cinsiyet değişkeni bakımından kadın öğretmenlerin lehine anlamlı fark olduğu belirlenmiştir. Etkili vatandaşlık yeterlik algılarının, yaş değişkeni bakımından 41 ve üzeri yaşa sahip olan öğretmenlerin lehine, mezuniyet değişkeni bakımından Sosyal Bilgiler Öğretmenliği bölümünden mezun olan öğretmenlerin lehine, kıdem değişkeni bakımından ise 15 yıl ve üstü kıdeme sahip öğretmenlerin lehine anlamlı olarak farklılaştığı görülmüştür. Araştırmanın sonuçlarına dayalı olarak Sosyal Bilgiler öğretmenlerinin etkili vatandaşlık algıları ile öğrencilerin vatandaşlık kazanımları arasındaki ilişkiyi belirleyecek nitel ve nicel araştırmalar yapılması önerilebilir.

The purpose of this study is to examine Social Studies teachers' perceptions of effective citizenship in terms of various variables. The research was conducted using the quantitative research method with a survey model. The study group consisted of 311 Social Studies teachers working in secondary schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education in 10 districts of Istanbul during the 2022-2023 academic year. Data were collected using the Effective Citizenship Competence Scale (ECCS) developed by Sağlam (2011). ECCS is a 5-point likert-type scale with 23 items and two sub-dimensions. The data obtained from the research were analyzed using the IBM SPSS 26 package program. The findings of the study revealed that Social Studies teachers have the highest level of effective citizenship perceptions. Additionally, it was determined that there is a significant difference in favor of female teachers in terms of gender variable in effective citizenship competence perceptions of Social Studies teachers. It was also observed that effective citizenship competence perceptions differ significantly in favor of teachers aged 41 and above in terms of age variable, in favor of teachers graduated from the Social Studies Teaching department in terms of graduation variable, and in favor of teachers with 15 years and above of seniority in terms of seniority variable. Based on the results of the research, it is recommended to conduct qualitative and quantitative research to determine the relationship between Social Studies teachers' perceptions of effective citizenship and students' citizenship acquisitions.
